Adobe’s Photoshop Unveils AI Tool to Magically Expand Your Images

Adobe is adding a new feature to its Photoshop software that allows users to increase the size of images beyond their original dimensions. The function, called “Generative Expand”, is available in the beta version of Photoshop and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create extra content that blends into the existing image.

Here’s how it works: Users can increase the size of an image by using the Crop tool to expand the canvas. After clicking the “Generate” button, Generative Expand will fill the new space with AI-created content. Users can also add text prompts to guide what the AI produces. This new content is added as a separate layer, so it can be removed if users aren’t happy with the result.

Adobe is taking steps to prevent Generative Expand from creating inappropriate or harmful content. It has set up filters for text prompts to reduce the creation of inappropriate images. In addition, the company checks the images created by the AI to make sure they don’t violate its terms of service.

Although the Generative Expand feature isn’t new in the world of AI, integrating it directly into Photoshop, which has an estimated 29 million users worldwide, could be a smart move by Adobe. However, Adobe has stated that Generative Expand can’t be used commercially yet, but it plans to change this later in the year.
